A Legend Returns: fer Comes Out of Retirement to Represent Gaimin Gladiators at IEM Cologne Major 2026

Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, one of the most decorated names in Brazilian Counter-Strike history, is coming out of retirement to compete on the biggest stage in CS2 — and he's doing it wearing the Gaimin Gladiators tag.

His last competitive appearance came with the Last Dance roster under the Imperial banner in January 2023 in CS:GO, making this a return after more than three years away from official play. In his own words, fer acknowledged he can't commit to the full grind of professional play, telling media: "I can't handle the player life nowadays, so I told them I could practice for a month and play the Major."

There's a poetic dimension to it all. Cologne is where fer won his second Major with SK Gaming, and now he returns to the same city — this time in GG colors — for what may be the final Major appearance of his career.

GG's confirmed lineup for the event is fer, HEN1, NEKIZ, Luken, and JOTA. They enter from Stage 1, which kicks off on June 2.
